The Padua Amateur Swimming Club (PASC) has been in operation from around the time the original pool was built on the Padua College site in the 1970's. The club was originally known as the St Francis Swimming club and the "swimming saint" decal comes from this time. Our club has always been a community swimming club providing for any interested swimmers both boys and girls from the surrounding schools or suburbs. The club, whilst strongly supported by Padua College has always been a separate entity to the school and in the past the club has supplied our coach to the college and the college has maintained the pool.
With the advent of the new pool and gymnasium facility being built by Padua College the school is expanding their swimming program. Because of this we have now restructured the club slightly. The school now employs the coaching staff and collects the fees associated with the Learn to Swim program and squad training. The club is still a separate entity registered with Swimming Queensland and Brisbane Swimming associations and all swimmers are welcome regardless of age or ability.
Padua College will be encouraging their swimmers to be more involved in the swimming program in an effort to increase the profile and abilities of the Padua College swim team within the Associated Independent Colleges and Catholic Independent Colleges competitions, by offering reduced training fees to students. The Padua Amateur Swimming Club will actively encourage each of these students to become members of our club with the view to offering them race practice, rules and healthy competition. We believe that the support of this arrangement between PASC and Padua College has provided the basis for an extremely strong club that can provide for the needs of all members.
Those swimmers interested will have the option of competing at Brisbane Swimming (BSA) and Queensland Swimming (QSA) events. There will also be a number of inter club carnivals. Those interested in swimming for fitness and stroke improvement will also be encouraged, as always. Last season saw the introduction of adult swimming and triathlete training both of which we hope to extend.
It is a proud tradition of the swimming club to provide a community environment where families are a key focus. All members and their families are invited to participate and enjoy our Friday night club nights. These nights provide the opportunity for swimmers of all ages to compete against each other and their own times. It is also a healthy and friendly social environment for the swimmers to interact with their friends. Parents are encouraged to come along and enjoy the BBQ and to wind down from the working week while watching your children show off their swimming skills.
Coach David Barnes will be managing the swimming program. He will again be assisted by coaches Mandy Matheson, Gayle Stewart and Rob McDonald.
The 2010/2011 Committee Welcome all members old and new and asks that everyone become involved in supporting each of the activities undertaken this season in support of your club and your swimmers. Please keep up to date with the ever evolving PASC web site www.paduaswim.org.au where you will find links to all forms and information involving the club.
For simplicity the club will often be referred to as Padua Swimming but we are still officially the Padua Amateur Swimming Club (PASC). |
